Altered Carbon: Rage in Heaven   Show Only
February 28, 2018 11:11 PM - Season 1, Episode 9 - Subscribe

After a devastating rampage, Kovacs and his allies hatch a bold - and very risky - scheme to infiltrate Head in the Clouds.

Oh, I see Ortega made it.
OR DID SHE?
She did not.
Martha Higareda doing this weird thing with her cheeks where she tries to look like Dichen Lachman and it just looks.... odd.
Oh no oh no oh no.
Sooner or later, god(s) will cut you down.
Pulling the Mom card again!
Oh boy a trip to CLONE ISLAND. And Tak is double sleeved!
OK, this plan is coming together.
This is a SHIT plan.
It still doesn't make sense that people are in their regular sleeves in VR. But this doesn't look like VR.
Can Lizzie see the future?
...welp.
...
...
... double welp.
bye-bye bag!
I guess no plan survives first contact ... or a dose of Reaper...
Or a dose of Stallion. I thought Bancroft had been set up, and he had been, but not like that.
Aaaaaaaand SCENE!

Have to admit, the Ortega deception took me by surprise, even after seeing her kneel unsuspectingly next to the little girl clone of Rei at the very end of the previous episode. Then when I rewatched the scenes, it was obvious that Higareda was adding a bit of Dichen Lachman to her performance.

Rei's also a bit of an exhibitionist in Ortega's body, which adds a bit of uncomfortably incestuous kink undercurrent to the scene once you know her identity. Takeshi's her brother, after all. But it's clear she wants to destroy Ortega. Sending Mr. Leung to kill her family. Then later Rei's line, "I’m gonna watch Ortega eat her own fucking eyeballs.”

Every once in a while, this show portrays something quite violent and cruel that makes it difficult to watch. Leung killing Ortega's family. That horrifying stack remover. The entire sequence in Head in the Clouds learning that the girl presented to Vernon is slated to die but doesn't know she's not coming back. Finding out what Bancroft did to that poor girl in Head in the Clouds while hopped up on "Stallion." It's a lot to deal with all in one episode.

I liked Kovacs playing himself at Rock Paper Scissors. There was a Farscape episode with a similar conceit, guess that’s just what you do when you meet your doppelgänger.

Had to use the internet to remind myself what 653 was.

Things are certainly looking grim for our hero, the Hello Unicorn bag.
