I've been watching this series with my kids. They and I love it! I like that there really are no "bad guys", and most problems are solved by quick thinking, and the creatures that you may think are "monsters" aren't monsters, and they are dealt with by talking to and understanding them. This is a very optimistic and positive series, and Hilda's world is so well imagined and has a lot of depth to it.

This show is incredibly cute and awesome. The themes of conflict resolution and optimism reminds me a lot of Steven Universe. My kids, who are way into Steven, devoured this one as well. It makes me want to get the graphic novels on which it is based.

I've been curious about this since it was added to Netflix and that makes it much more appealing. The recommended age for this is 7, but it sounds like it would be very appropriate for a 4-year-old? (She watches and understands Frozen & Moana, which I assume as PG films are more intense that this.)

This is really good! The theme tune is a banger and I've been catching up with episodes my kid has watched while I wasn't around, I like it that much. Speaking of which, I tried to get my kid interested in the Hilda books at the library to no avail previously, but today he told me he's going to get one out next time.

Also, almost every episode I see something I could use in a D&D adventure.

it sounds like it would be very appropriate for a 4-year-old?

There is the odd bit that's a bit creepier? Like episode 6, "The Nightmare Spirit", where Hilda's friend is having nightmares caused by a teenage girl who's actually a nightmare-spirit (the spirit might be a bit scary, and the nightmares may be a bit intense). Depends on your kid though. Maybe check out the episode summaries beforehand.

It depends on your 4-year old. Some parts might go over their head. Some episodes might be a bit scary at times, but in the end everything is resolved in a nice way. Watch an episode or two - they are only 25 minutes.

My six year old loves this show and spent the morning before school bus drawing all the characters.

I have totally been recommending this show to adults in my life looking for a show that isn't stressful. It's really lovely, and the creatures are so great.

Resident 7 year old loves it and doesn't find it scary as much as tense in a couple spots. The resolutions prevent any lingering scaries from hanging out.

A+++ would Hilda again. I'm sure these comics will find a spot on furnace.kid's shelves soon.

If netflix would get the same team on Rutabaga the adventure chef on the screen, that'd be dreamy.

Thanks for this post, and the initial comment, fimbulvetr! We started watching on your recommendation, after seeing the cover art pop up on Netflix and being intrigued.

Resident almost 4 year old is a fan, and 3 episodes in, hasn't been scared off. Resident 7 year old is also a fan, and definitely gets more of the humor, but also more of the tense moments that don't faze the youngest.

My three- and six-year old kids both love this series, as do I. We got a Hilda short at Free Comic Book Day a year or two ago, and when this showed up on Netflix, my big kid recognized it immediately. The art is gorgeous, the music is great, and the stories are just lovely.
