Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Medical Devices
June 3, 2019 2:00 PM - Season 6, Episode 13 - Subscribe
This week's topic is medical devices, specifically those made to be implanted in the human body, and how there's much less FDA oversight of the development and sales of these devices than one would think. There is a real and huge difference between the phrases FDA Approved and FDA Cleared, as many have recently discovered. The segment is on YouTube (19m).
Your YouTube link links to this thread, JHarris. I'd supply the correct YouTube link but I can't seem to find it.
God, that was a gruelling one to watch. Thankfully Health Canada doesn't just take the FDA's word that something is safe but has its own approval process.

Ack, here's the link that should be in the post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tIdzNlExrw. When a MeFi thread links to itself BTW, it's because the server detected the link to be malformed. I'll flag this comment to get the attention of a mod.
