Scream 2 (1997)

Two years after the first series of murders, as Sydney acclimates to college life, someone donning the Ghostface costume begins a new string of killings.
My opinions about this one have waxed and waned over the years (like my opinions of 3). I think this one has a weak beginning--to me the theater scene feels superfluous, tacked on--and the dialogue in the scene in film class makes me cringe, but I think the second half is strong and has some inspired scenes. In particular I liked the cat and mouse scene in the editing suite, the scene with Ghostface among the dancers on stage, and the final scene on stage.

lol at tori spelling giving away the entire film
I just finished a rewatch of the series and found 2 to be a much stronger installment than my initial impression made it out to be. Laurie Metcalf is perfect, of course. Was odd seeing Timothy Olyphant’s character basically disappear for half the movie. When he reappears at the end I was hard-pressed to remember who he was at all.
Of the four I’d rank this one firmly at #2.
