I never watched the original series, so, any and all homages were lost on me, aside from seeing that they used the same font for the show name.

I thought this was pretty decent, though I don't tend to watch this kind of family/relationship-centered drama long term, so I don't know if I'll continue. But I liked the cast, and I think I liked episode 2 more than the pilot, so I may keep watching.
