Fresh out of prison and spun out of The Big Lebowski's universe, Jesus Quintana embarks on misfit adventures with an ensemble cast of rogues.

Written and directed by and starring John Turturro, The Jesus Rolls also borrows from the French film Going Places (trailer). Variety's take on the movie.

I saw Going Places recently, and it's a rough watch. It's about two assholes who go around harrassing random women, who end up loving it. It was the third highest-grossing film in France in 1974, after Emmanuelle and Disney's Robin Hood, which is mind-blowing: it's really the kind of movie that can only be watched today with a proper understanding of the time and society it was created in. I have a hard time believing that a remake was a good idea in the first place: either it's faithful to the original, which makes it unwatchable, or it's fully changed, which makes it pointless. I may have a look at Turturro's version out of curiosity, though.
