Some of this was so hard to watch—the dynamic between Pat and Diane (?) and Pat’s intractability (and Terry’s being stuck in the middle) was painfully close to things I’ve been through, and seeing both Terry and Pat go through health issues... I knew it’d be hard to watch, and it really was. But there was so much to enjoy too, and it was fascinating to watch their journey as well as view the past that led them there. (One of my favorite scenes was the guy at the building being so tickled over who they were and the story about the base-stealing) and I got sniffley as hell when they got married.

What lives they led. I’m so glad they found each other.

This piece from Buzzfeed really clarifies some of the discomfort I felt watching:

An otherwise heartwarming story of a decadeslong relationship, A Secret Love is undercut by its filmmakers' preoccupations with the closet.
