More cheering! Another college! Who came back? Who left, and why? Who will win? What's with the weird music they perform to?

I plan on just dumping stuff here as I answer the questions I had while I watched the second season. Spoilers ahead!

One place where music like this comes from.

TVCC doesn't seem to be explicitly Christian, but I guess... maybe that's just how things are?

The music is even worse than you'd think from the show.

My partner and I were trying to figure out what these schools are. I thought “junior college” was just another term for community college, but I’ve never seen one with dorms. Is this a weird Texas thing (I grew up in Texas, but Houston is a really different place than Corsicana)? It seems like such an odd duck of a school that I’m not surprised the 2 schools are just competing against each other.

I liked getting to know some of the athletes and coaches from the other school. They’re just as interesting (more so in some ways).

I also appreciated that they showed how fame was impacting the Navarro group - taking up time and pulling focus. I was impressed at the extent to which the athletes there were circumspect about their frustration with Monica being gone for a chunk of their season. If I had moved from another state (and was paying out of state tuition at a junior college - is this even a thing?) to train with a specific coach and that person was gone and replaced with someone much less experienced, I would be pissed and I think it would have been ok for them to be angry too.

I feel like the Jerry stuff was handled well. The boys were so brave and thoughtful.

I remember doing a deep dive into the "these two schools are only competing with each other" after season 1 and I think the answer more or less turns out to be "these two schools are so good that all the other schools got out of the category." Way to get out of the category include reducing squad size, doing single gender, etc.

My local community college has dorms. I think some of the motivation is to attract international students.

I realized the music sounds like you're turning the dial randomly on an FM radio.

Am I a bad person for being very curious about Coach Khris's home life?

I think Coach Khris's home life is kinda sad, actually. He seems like a "failure to launch" kinda guy who put everything into his profession and let his personal life wilt. The bestie + wife who he lives with seem like they love him a lot and are kinda nurturing him until he grows up?

In this house we believe Coach Khris is in a loving and supportive triad.

Coach Khris is the Coach Beard of competitive cheerleading.

I do really enjoy this show- the athleticism, the dedication of the coaches and athletes working towards a shared goal, and the underlying themes of class, race, and queerness.

I hope Coach Khris is in a loving and supportive triad! That would be so lovely for him. (I just don't think he is, alas.)

If you're curious about the style of music, you can find a lot more by searching YouTube for "Cheer Mix."

For anyone who wants a spoiler for season 3 (is there going to be a season 3?!?), Daytona 2022 is happening right now, and the videos are up on YouTube. You can watch Navarro and TVCC and guess at the winner...or read the comments and find out.
