Blood & Ice Cream: The Cornetto Trilogy

Now that The World's End is out and (I guess?) relatively available, I was thinking that a series of posts on Edgar Wright's magnificent three might be fun.

I'd watch Shaun again. The second one wasn't as great IMO and the third I found entirely disappointing.

You need to watch the third one again, then, because it was amazing.

I've watched it twice already; precisely because I thought I must have been missing something; nope. I had a long response written out and went to review the plot to get my facts straight and just seeing it all laid bare again just underscored the negative feeling I had toward that film. I fully concede I'm an outlier; I also positively loathe Wright's Scott Pilgrim.

Well, at least we agree on Scott Pilgrim.

FWIW, The World's End already has a FanFare post. I'm not sure if there's any official policy on double posts in FanFare yet -- other FanFare movie clubs have managed overlap by sharing a single post.

(1-3-2 for me I think; Shaun is obviously a timeless classic, TWE captures new-town boredom quite well, and being a town boy not a country lad I never found Fuzz very relatable.)

We had a deal, Kyle - aarh, I done goofed, had searched for all three and managed to miss TWE. Nuts.

I think there is something to be said for a post which involves all three as there multiple connections (including subtle things like soundtrack choices) between the movies that wouldn't work in a stand alone any one of the movies.

I'm not overly fond of that post - I must've been phoning it in that day.

I'm sure there's more interesting stuff out there on the web about this movie, and a better FanFare post can be created.

If you want to delete and create a more comprehensive post, with links to relevant reviews, interviews, and such, you're more than welcome to do it.

PAGING METAFILTER AUTHORITIES TO COMMENT! :D ;)

(I just don't know what the policy is with regards to deleting movie posts in order to create a better post, with the original poster's blessings...)

As someone who commented in that post: HELL NO, NO DELETING OLD POSTS. Not that that's the Metafilter way anyway.

But maybe more interesting to consider: does FanFare have a policy on doubling posts? This has already sort-of happened for TV shows where the "special spoiler conditions" apply -- Game of Thrones and Outlander had both show-only and books-included posts, and I think maybe also we have some shows that have both first-watch and re-watch posts.

But for movies: is the first post on a movie the one-and-only-ever? Or is there scope for "we're revisiting this movie as part of this series/club, let's have a new post for that discussion"?

Okay I was just tossing out ideas. It's a bit silly anyways, upon reflection.

I would post your last question as a FanFare Talk post if I were you. Which I'm not.

As I said, I think it's legitimate if you "repost" the movie in the context as part of a trilogy as opposed to standing on its own.

Basically I own the Cornetto Trilogy on Dvd and I would love to talk about all the little connections between the movies.

(I would also appreciate it if we could do this soon as this is my last week of vacation before I have to go back to teaching college students and ruining my back correcting papers.)

I just got the trilogy too, and it would give me an excuse to watch it again. The Hot Fuzz commentary with Tarantino is not included, but I think it's on Youtube anyways.
