For the Sake of Vicious (2020)

Romina, an overworked nurse and single mother returns home from her late shift on Halloween to find a maniac hiding out with a bruised and beaten hostage. When an unexpected wave of violent intruders descends upon her home, the trio realize the only way out of the situation is to work together and fight for their survival.

All the trigger warnings. This is a nasty little piece of work.

That said, I tend to come down pretty close to this review:

Carrer and Eveneshen's world may be cruel, but it's not exploitative. It's dismal, but never tedious. It's violent, but not soulless. It's our world, like it or not.
