Emi, a school teacher, finds her career and reputation under threat after a personal sex tape is leaked on the Internet. Forced to meet the parents demanding her dismissal, Emi refuses to surrender to their pressure. A satirical comedy-drama from acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude.
Currently streaming in the US on Hulu.

The first segment of this, with Emi walking across town (and crossing all kinds of scenarios that either provide exposition about her situation or are damning sature of contemporary Romania) is good. The second segment, a non-narrative, weirdly experimental series of impressions and images that show things valued and not valued, exploited and esteemed, etc. is deeply fucking weird. Then in the third segment, it returns to the story of Emi.

The version on Hulu has the opening sex tape scene censored
Wow that's really fucked up. You can see screenshots of the hilariously awful censoring in this Twitter post. Someone in the replies says it's censored on Prime as well, and someone else says you can rent the uncensored version as an option on iTunes.

Cathartic ending.
penetrating narrative, one could say.
censorship: yeah, it irritated me, but was well-matched thematically to the Big Showdown dialog.
this is, yeah, pretty dark about humanity. the only film i can compare it to in that sense is Baraka.
the first half really establishes Commerce, Privilege, and Ruin as their own characters.
and, wow, the film asserts romania has a giant ww2 hangover and deeply racist culture. the characters in the Big Showdown might have been facism, intellectualism, moralism, and hypocrisy themselves.
four stars.
