Old school Pixar: What if toys/bugs/monsters were real/alive/relatable?
New school Pixar: WHAT IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE DIED?

I love, LOVE this movie. I thought I loved the first two but no, this one is my favorite. Maybe even the last Pixar movie I truly loved? I think what does it for me is the unrelenting darkness. It's grim. I felt like they stakes were real, and even though it's a kids' movie I honestly thought they were all going to die.

I saw this movie on a Bolivian overnight bus. It was a shaky Russian cam with partial subtitles in Spanish overlaid on top of the Russian. It was still good!

Yeah, that scene. I cried. Then I cried again at the end. Crying while watching a cartoon! I didn’t do that when Bambi’s mother died.

I don't even remember someone dying, only saw it in theatre the one time! I wasn't crazy about the movie. For some wild reason I kept hoping/thinking it would be building up to some anti-consumerist message, the toys end up destroyed but the kids move on, which coming from Disney would be a headspin if they even tried to pull that one, but still, the heart wants what the heart wants.

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I was far from the only adult in the audience sniffling or outright sobbing at the end. My emotional reaction is now dulled a bit since my daughter has watched it a billion times, but still an amazinly well crafted movie.
