Celebrity Jeopardy!: The First Tournament
September 27, 2022 12:31 PM - Season 1 (Full Season) - Subscribe
The occasional (and much-parodied) special becomes a full-fledged series, with a 13-episode tournament to crown the ultimate smart famous person. To let the celebrities get more quips and charming anecdotes in, the show is an hour long and features a Triple Jeopardy round (though the "dollar amounts" are back to the old $100-$500 amounts in Single Jeopardy).
The first game had all-time highest CJ! scorer Andy Richter up against a definitely-worriedShang-Chi Simu Liu and Ego Nwodim (crossing over from Black Jeopardy), who just managed to hold their own into a surprisingly Chekovian Final Jeopardy round.

I was not expecting Simu to pull off the upset. Making the show an hour long and including triple jeopardy wasn't what I was expecting. For the most part, I was really disappointed by how dumb most of the answers were. Yes, I know Celebrity Jeopardy is usually not as challenging as the main version, but even still, I thought it was pretty bad. (Note: I didn't actually watch this. It was on in the other room while I was otherwise occupied, so my impressions of what went on may be slightly off.)

Watched this last night (via Hulu) and was thoroughly entertained, though Richter’s commanding performance was a bit much after awhile. I was shocked that he missed Final Jeopardy, after his performance throughout the game.
One of the great features of Jeopardy is when a player is genuinely, sincerely shocked/amazed they won. Simu was a delight to watch after he realized he had won. The post-Final-Jeopardy discussion between Mayim and the players seemed to have the feel of what might go on off-camera post-show, and that was quite nice.
I liked the addition of Triple Jeopardy (though I certainly wouldn’t want to add it to the “real” game) and didn’t mind the hour-long format. The mid-game commercial breaks were definitely odd, though.
I didn’t even realize this was happening until I saw this post. Thanks for the heads-up, Ertigan!

All praise to Ike Barinholtz for providing a great example of how trivia != trivia: He’s an absolutely dominant CJ player and a D-minus LearnedLeaguer.
