After Cherie lodges a HR complaint against a coworker, her boss asks her to represent him at a business dinner. The client proves to be handsome and charming and what started as a business dinner seems to turn romantic.

But after inviting Cherie in for a nightcap, her client turns violent. When she escapes and goes to the police, she discovers how dangerous and powerful he really is.

Ranked at 68% at Rotten Tomatoes it stars Ella Balinska, Pilou Asbæk, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

So amazon prime suckered me with this one. I didn't go in with huge expectations, which is good, but I still was utterly disappointed.

The plot is intended to take the most dangerous game and pair it with #metoo, which sounds like it could be really epic. But the script just does it in the most ridiculous way possible. I don't want to give away the "twist" but once I found out, I realized I was just going to riff on the movie. So I still got entertainment out of it, but the kind I hoped for.

I mean it's not awful, but yeah if you're looking for a movie where your enjoyment of it is that it's a good movie, don't bother with this one.

This is well-executed, and has a certain exploitative energy that keeps it moving and watchable.

But Roger Ebert used to say a movie has to earn its right to take on sensitive topics, by having something to say worth hearing on them. I don't know that this does.

I still kind of liked it to some extent but the Hey Let's Do a John Wick Mythology of the First Lady was a clunker that stopped the momentum it had. And that's even with how much I love Shohreh Aghdashloo, who I would watch read the phone book.

So yeah, like miss-lapin said: not a bad time, but not great. I think if it had been willing to settle on being propulsive and a little sleazy, it would have worked better. I don't it has the bones to do the serious messaging it takes some half-hearted swings at.

Apropos nothing, but if there was a Badass Ladies of a Certain Age movie with Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Helen Mirren, I'd be there on opening day.
