I wondered about Nick’s kid, too. I think his wife walks with a cane? Unclear what the issue is, though.

My wife heard the line about the genetic concerns and for some reason immediately leaped to the conclusion that Nick and Rose were related. I sure hope that isn't the case.

Rose has congenital hip dysplasia (and I believe the actress playing her does as well.) It's a birth defect with some genetic risk factors. From this EW Interview:

"Rose is the daughter of a very prominent commander, and when she was born, there was very little hope. And he brought her home and did absolutely everything he could do to keep her alive,"I gather from this that Gilead does not generally tolerate disabilities, but Rose's father had enough clout to defy the prejudice. This means that Rose draws passive-aggressive judgy comments but won't be excluded entirely.
