If you want to think of this as Session 9 meets Paranormal Activity, that's not far off. Not much that's new here, but well-executed. It's one of those where you don't especially like the people and are waiting for them to die.

The pacing was perfect until the last act, which could have been shaved a bit. I still enjoyed it. It's likely in that category where a lot of horror fans (though certainly not all) can get into it, but it's not good enough to win over part-timers or non-aficionados.

Minihan has been tapped for the new Urban Legend film.

They do some neat stuff! The sequel isn't nearly as interesting.

That's a pretty rough comparison, considering the core conceit of Session 9 is how little overtly 'paranormal' activity there is. This may also just be my own issue with loving the hell out of Session 9 and deeply loathing the PA franchise all the way back to the first one.

I'm of the opinion that the Paranormal Acitivty series is often brilliant. Seriously. This movie wishes it had the thematic depth underneath that the PA films have. (Argue with me on the PA post if that irks you.)
