Quantum Leap (2022): Quantum Leap: Somebody Up There Likes Ben
February 20, 2023 8:38 PM - Season 1, Episode 3 - Subscribe

Ben leaps into the body of a promising young boxer in 1970s Las Vegas on the eve of a title fight.

So, I have fond enough memories of the original show to have checked this out, but it's not so sacred that I'm all het up about the changes to the format. Based on the comments from the two previous episodes, it looks like a bunch of watchers noped out because there's too big a team and there's less focus on being in each leap and solving it.

Personally, I'm digging this new take. The cast is good. There's a mystery dragging us forward. It's not the original show, but the original show was problematic in its own ways. I'm looking forward to more of it.

In the 1985 episode, I commented to my wife, "This must be the very edge of where he can jump to" and sighed, because we are old now. So it was a bit of a shock to see him in 1977, but they addressed it. It seems like they are heading for a rendezvous with Scott Bakula. But it also seems like it's written in the traditional TV style of "we are totally making this up as we go along."

I've been thoroughly enjoying this whole series. I like the characters, I'm enjoying the longer plot arc and the stories-of-the-week have almost all worked really well for me.

I think episode 5 or 6 is where this series really finds its groove - the larger ensemble really gels together and the overarching mysteries aren't too much of a distraction for me to just chill and enjoy Ben solving some time leap problems.. Color me pleasantly surprised by this reboot, I'm glad it got the back-half order of episodes.

I didn't try this when it came out due to the negativity here... now based on your comments it's sounding good. I guess it's time to start that 30-day trial of Peacock...

I'm enjoying it a lot, too, including the overall arc - I am a real sucker for temporal shenanigans and look forward to at least one cast member meeting their future self.
