Somebody Somewhere: NNP
April 24, 2023 12:20 PM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe
While Sam begins the emotional task of cleaning out the barn, Joel rents out his house, and Tricia prepares to take Shannon to college.
Yay! We enjoyed the first season, did not know if it was renewed!

Well, almost all of the gang - made me a little misty to see the framed picture of Mike Hagerty, who passed away before they filmed this season and was written off "temporarily" for the time being.
Heartbreaking to hear them talking about how good it is for him to take time for himself with tears in their eyes!
I thought it was a lovely first episode, just really nice to be back in this world.

After the toxic personalities of Succession, watching Sam and Joel and Tricia and Murray was practically healing.

Conversely, I’ve watched so much stuff like Somebody, Somewhere that Succession was an instant fail. Real people are horrible enough.
Very glad this show is back.

I was somewhat confused that Sam's mom had had a stroke and that Joel had moved to Sam's couch and started renting out his house. I also didn't remember that Fred had moved to Wisconsin. Did I miss an episode of Season 1, or did these events happen off screen?

I was also trying to remember what was covered in season 1. I think everything you mentioned happened offscreen between seasons.

I was so confused by Sam's dad going off fishing with his brother while her mom was in a home recovering from a stroke - not that it was a wrong thing to do or he didn't deserve to, but it seemed contrary to how his character had been established in season 1. I couldn't imagine him ever leaving Sam's mom side for any length of time while she was still alive. And now I understand why and I am crushed, he was a wonderful character wonderfully portrayed. What a loss for this wonderful show.

So glad this is back! One of my favorite shows, full of joy while also honestly acknowledging pain. That's a tough balancing act but they do it so well here. They really piled on the positivity in this opener; I just love the friendship between Sam and Joel.
