AEW Collision: August 19
August 19, 2023 4:50 PM - Season 1, Episode 10 - Subscribe

Papa Tony is keeping cards close to his chest tonight, as only three matches are confirmed pre-show while the other segments are mostly "A Wrestler you like will... do something!" Let's all shiver with anticipation! (As a reminder, tonight's collision, like Dynamite and Rampage before it, are soliciting donations to the Maui Food Bank.)

The announced card for Collision:

AEW Tag Team Champions “FTR” Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood speak
Wheeler has apparently taken his love of old-school wrestling so far that, like Hogan back in the early 80s, he got in a wee bit of trouble for brandishing a gun while driving. Please light a candle and pray to the Wrestling Gods that this doesn't scuttle their match with the Bucks in London next week.
-Darby Allin vs. Christian Cage
No doubt Luchasaurus Oscuro will be standing by to help Cage cheat his ass off. Nick Wayne might be in Darby's corner, though after the beatings he's taken recently for being Darby's friend, don't be surprised if he denies ever knowing the man.
-Diamante vs. Willow Nightingale
Two women who can put on a great match in front of a Collision audience... or a sold-out Wembley Stadium audience, Tony! (Or an All Out audience the following week, I suppose.
-Jay White vs. Dalton Castle
According to Cagematch, these two men have never faced each other one-on-one before! In fact, the last time they were in the ring together was 2018, on opposite sides of a trios match at a NJPW/ROH show.
-Ricky Starks speaks
-Miro speaks
If these two segments combine into a "Miro takes Ricky under his wing and teaches him to fight God" storyline, I'm not complaining
-Powerhouse Hobbs vs. ???
-Samoa Joe vs. ???
And again, if these two segments are actually the same match, these two men haven't faced each other since Joe beat Hobbs and Wardlow at Full Gear 2022 for the TNT title. So HELL YEAH, put these two in the ring again!

If Darby seems a little more satisfied this week, it's because he and Sting paid a little "turnabout is fair play" by showing up to AR Fox's wrestling school and causing a little ruckus.

Joe's "opponent" was Punk, which I'm glad was blatantly obvious from the moment the bell rings. I wonder whether calling himself the "Golden Vampire" is throwing shade at... himself?

Then another very excellent 35 minutes or so with Dalton Castle getting a competitive showing against Jay White, including a good spot of the rest of Bullet Club Gold getting wiped out with topes from the Boys, followed by a more comedy-ish trios match where Juice Robinson and the Gunns get a good showing from the IRON SAVAGES (I just feel like capitalizing the name).

Brian Cage is doing a UK tour I think, so the nascent tag team of him and Big Bill is on pause. But someone backstage must still want to move Bill up the card, so now Ricky Starks is putting his "manager's license" to good use.

The Willow/Diamante match continues to make Willow look strong and dangerous, and I hope the 4-woman tag promised with them and Kris Statlander and Mercedes Martinez makes it to one of the PPVs coming up.

Holy cow did Darby make a sick thump when Christian got pulled out of the way of an apron Coffin Drop.
