You Were My First Boyfriend is a feature-length documentary in which filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo revisits her 1990s adolescence, a generation after she thought she'd left it all behind.

It's on Max/HBO. She hilariously and poignantly explores her high school years through recreations and documentary footage.

I am of the right age where this aligns pretty closely with my life and Aldarondo's general taste and aesthetic is pretty close too. It's personal but it also feels very relatable in a universal way.

My friends and I have a joke that all Millennial women just want to be who they dreamed of being at 17-19 and I like that Aldarondo just went and did it.
