Tonari no Yokai-san: Episode 1 (Untitled) Show Only

Nestled in a windy valley, Fuchigamori is a rural town where humans and yokai live side by side like it's no big deal. There are backyard barbecues, visits to the local hardware store, neighbors dropping off extras from the garden and a lingering sense of impending doom from a hidden antagonist. English Language Title: The Yokai Next to Me.

I've been craving the kind of slow paced slice of life anime one doesn't see in English language media and only shows up intermittently in Japanese. This fits the bill nicely, and could easily fit into the same world as Natsume Yujincho.

Not sure if all the episode are just going to go untitled or what.

Buchio is a precious cinnamon roll and I vow to protect him from all socially awkward interactions.

This was a delightfully warm episode. It made me wish that my sweet dearly departed kitty boy could have had the choice of turning into a nekomata, though knowing my luck, the handsome opinionated bully of a cat would do it instead.

I always enjoy something that clearly has an internal logic, but isn't one that I can easily predict. With such a charming cast of characters, I'm looking forward to more.

Yes, I had one of my 12. yo cats hanging on my shoulder (it's just what Enkidu does when I watch media) when it was revealed that Buchio had been a 20 yo cat when he was reborn as a nekomata. I can't say that Enkidu got extra hugs in that moment, but he definitely got more mindful ones.
