Special Event: Rifftrax: The Amazing Bulk
April 25, 2024 11:55 AM - Subscribe

MST Club presents... a riff of a frankly astonishing movie. You may think you know awful CGI. Well, the computer art in this movie makes Birdemic look like a masterpiece. Buildings made out of a few rectangles! Storefronts with names written out in Comic Sans--which is also what the credits are written in! And the titular Bulk combines all the worst aspects of both Playstation and N64 in-engine cutscenes. Sites say it's meant as a spoof, but, oof. It seems a lot like that's just them trying to justify their terrible decisions. Riff from April 2024, movie from 2012.

We hold MST Club Thursday nights, starting at 7 PM US Eastern time, at https://cytu.be/r/Metafilter_MST3KClub. The "main event" happens at 9 PM Eastern.

Some riffs are 90-comedy edgy, especially those from a decade back or longer, and may contain isolated instances of various phobias. We apologize for that, and explain it as being a product of the time, but if that means you don't think you can join us that's okay. We've been trying to focus on recent riffs lately, partly for that reason. It doesn't seem like it'll be an issue with this week's episode.

So in a strange twist of fate I watched this last week with some friends and it is just too painful for me to watch it again this soon.

That's okay miss-lapin, the movie is a real challenge to get through.

It's exactly like they heard it was possible now to film in front of green screens and use digital sets, so they did that, but they only had the least skilled people possible do the backgrounds, we're talking literal sub-N64 modelling here.

I thought a movie couldn't have worse effects than Birdemic.

I was very wrong.
