Chekhov's Rowdy Bar Full of Stuntmen paid off beautifully.

No mirrors in the building this episode, but there was one behind the bartender.

(And...I usually think it's pretty silly when people bother pointing this stuff out, but saying the bar's in Hell's Kitchen and then shooting its exterior in an outer-borough neighborhood surrounded by two-story buildings felt like a bigger stretch than usual, especially -- at least thus far -- merely in the service of a "have you even been to hell's kitchen?" / "I've eaten at Oliver's" pun.)

(But giving Paul Rudd a stunt-double twin was pretty inspired.)

This world always has such interesting subgroups in it.

I did not expect Paul Rudd to appear, but I was happy to see him appear. In typical Murders fashion, one of the big mysteries has been resolved halfway through the show (this time thanks to Capitalism). Are the Westies finally off the hook?

Molly Shannon in the shed with a gun. 100% sure it's a prop gun. I wonder if Sazz had made a deal with Shannon (sorry I can't remember her character's name) for the movie, or if Sazz was holding up the movie in some way to leverage money for her school of falling.

I also 100% was sure that the bottle of ashes would make it to the pool table, not Charles, so my story plotting ability may not be too great.

I am not here for Oliver sabotaging his relationship. Boo.

So the surprising thing is that the exterior of Concussions is the exterior of the Windjammer, the bar in Ridgewood, Queens, that they used for the interior of Concussions. Which is a little surprising—they could have shot the exterior in Hell's Kitchen, or at least the Upper West Side—but one location is always going to be better than two, especially if you've only got Paul Rudd back for one day.

(This has been your random Ridgewood barspotting moment for this season. I haven't lived there since Covid so I'll run out of these eventually.)

I'm amused by the HAM theme:

- Portuguese HAM
- HAM Radio
- HAMmy Faye Baker

None that we know of so far.

Howard A? Morris?

Speaking of, I loved his audition scene. The Brothers Sisters are one of my favorite bit part characters. “I feel like I'm doing ayahuasca in Boise, Idaho” is a great line.

Here in Helsinki, we’re feeling both excited and trepidatious about meeting Helga, the unhinged Finnish ex-girlfriend. It’s probably going to be a smorgasbord or pan-Nordic stereotypes, but the writing team has earned our trust, so we’re not too worried.

At least you haven't had to deal with something like "Portugal? Why would anyone go to Portugal when Spain is right there!" Ugh.

The writers are just trying to keep swarms of people out of Portugal. That's my head canon and I'll brook no objections.

The stuntsman funeral tradition had big Guilds of Ankh-Morpork vibes. Felt like someone read whichever book has the clown funeral in it before they wrote this.

I hope Paul Rudd continues to recur in this universe.

We're running behind so just got to this episode...and I feel like I still have the nagging thought that Sazz isn't dead? Maybe she did get shot, she crawled herself to the incinerator chute, threw herself down it (because she knows how to take a fall), planted some handy joint pieces she happened to have in her pockets (ok maybe my theory isn't too sound) then turned on the incinerator to hide that her actual body wasn't in there.

It would not be the nuttiest thing that'd ever happened on this show!
