As someone whose prime SNL period was watching Dana Carvey do George Bush Sr. and the Church Lady, his interpretation of Biden was divine.

So happy this is back! Bowen was on fire this week, Moo Deng and Charli XCX were standouts for me!

Ok, the bit where they carried the bullet proof glass away with Trump, leaving Vance exposed, got me.

Gaffigan's portrayal of Walz was delightful.

"The lyrics are vague but the music slaps." Ouch.

Lots of energy, as one expects for a season premier. I thought the cold open was way too long, though. The gag of moving the bullet screen was brilliant and subtle.

Bowen was the standout for me.

Jean Smart as host was kind of a head-scratcher for me. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s a fine talent, but as a season premier host? I dunno. It just seemed like an odd choice.

WU was strong. I especially liked them obviously doing a last minute rewrite to include Trump’s jab at Harris just a couple of hours before air time.

I’m not much of a Jellyroll fan, so the music was just ok.

Overall, good start to the season.

Admittedly I'm not always up on the latest in pop culture, but I would've expected bigger names for the season premiere of the 50th season.

I am so sick of Che’s lazy misogynistic and racist humor. His first four jokes:
  1. Women talk too much
  2. The Chinese are bad drivers
  3. Haitians are eating cats (really??)
  4. Colin is racist
Come on, man.

I didn’t realize until watching that Punkie, Molly, and Chloe Troast had been fired! Pouring one out for them; I look forward to seeing what they do next.

Jean Smart was wasted. She’s so funny but she just wasn’t given much to do! Her I Love Lucy bit was the high point of the episode for me.

Oh no! Don’t know why I assumed they’d quit the show.

I found Jelly Roll’s performance of Winning Streak very moving and the set with the empty chairs and drop ceiling referenced a 12 Step meeting room.

With Bowen as Moo Deng, there were a number of Chappell Roan references. Knowing Bowen’s championing of Chappell for an SNL booking, and her recent cancellations, hope it all works out with her SNL appearance (though probably won’t be as spectacular as the flaming castle on MTV awards.) Apparently there was backlash leading to a clarification from Bowen Yang.

As far as I am aware, Punkie & Molly quit, and Chloe Troast was fired. (coff coff they fired the wrong chloe coff coff) sorry allergic reaction there And I thought those three were all woefully underused while they were cast members—I've yet to figure out (I've seen Ep 2 as well) if the new kids can fill those shoes, because the former three definitely broadened the range of the cast in a very needed way.

While watching, my sweetie and I had the sudden realization that the two most senior cast members, aside from Jost and Che (whom I don't believe write any of their jokes alone—it feels like a joke-by-committee game of see who can make Jost and Che say the most offensive thing), and aside from Kenan, are Mikey Day and Heidi Gardner. Everyone has chops, and sometimes someone pops out in front (aside from when it's Bowen Night Live), but there doesn't seem to be a cohesion... like in some "eras" almost anyone in the cast could suddenly pop. Last year, and this year everyone seems mildly funny, and some sketches stand out, but there are no sketches where two, three, or more characters all get to be funny. I am fishing in my mind for cast members who explode when paired together or as a team, and no pairing stands out. No "Aidy & Cecily" or "Will Forte & Jason Sudeikis & Kristen Wiig" or countless examples from the past... I don't think of "Mikey Day paired with _____ is always fire." Maybe that ____ used to be Alex Moffatt, but he's long gone.

ANYWAY it's early in the season, let's see if the gang can score a few sports-points, kick some runs. We need the Ws!
