From Kirkus: Poignant, respectful, and historically accurate while pulsating with emotional turmoil, adventure, and suspense. (maps, author’s note) (Historical fiction. 10-14)

From SLJ: VERDICT This compelling novel will help young people make sense of today's refugee crisis. Meant to be read, discussed, and shared widely.

This is Part 1 of the YA and Middle Grade October bookclub.

I loved this. I thought the reviews were spot on and this would likely be a compelling book for a large age range. A great family read aloud for preteens who are thinking about the state of the world.
