Person of Interest: Mission Creep
November 21, 2024 7:35 AM - Season 1, Episode 3 - Subscribe
When the Machine directs Reese and Finch to a former soldier connections to a crime ring, Reese must infiltrate the gang, taking part in their heist.
The POI Joey seems to have a good life with a fiance and a solid job, but he gives to proceeds of the robberies to a blonde woman with a child. Finch realizes that Joey is giving money to the child of a fallen comrade who died when they swapped places on patrol.
Reese tries to talk Joey into walking away from all this and just being with his fiance, but Joey resists. When the organizer of the robberies goes to liquidate the team to start fresh, Reese helps Joey and his fiance escape.
Throughout the episode are flashbacks of John running into Jessica, now engaged, in an airport. The episode ends with Jessica saying to Reese, "Tell me to wait for you. Say those words and I will". She tells him to do that would take real courage.
Reese does not ask, but rather watches her walk away, then whispers, "Wait for me... please."

I feel like the show generally makes effective use of his talents, such as they are. But when the "number of the week" plots and characters are especially formulaic, he can only manage so much.
