I just caught up with this today. It's a flawed film, to be sure, but on the whole I liked it anyway.

I'd say that Julie's character should have more agency, especially early on, and that the writing of her character reminded me of the sort of writing men do when they think of women as things to be won rather than people who have their own feelings, goals, and ideas. Also, the twist reminded a bit of that old joke about the duck who falls in love with a decoy ("If he loves me enough, he'll change"). Yet still I liked it!

Generally I tend to be cynical and/or over-critical but I guess somehow this one slipped past my defenses and charmed me anyway.

I liked the Pygmalion vibe in this movie. It's problematic but still compelling in some ways.

I loved this film and it’s my romance hating teen’s favourite zombie film because it’s such an oddball film with all kinds of scary sweet weird moments that the cast make work through just good acting. I remember thinking about the lead huh he’s one to watch for, and then seeing him in The Great years later going ohh yeasss he’s the hot weirdo.

Rob Corddry's performance in this is delightful. So much more than just comic relief.
