It’s a heavy show. Murder, SA, suicide (attempted and successful), racism, sexism. There’s a bit of humor but not enough to balance it out. And not much genuine warmth and care between the characters.

I’m seeing some critique of historical accuracy but so far nothing detailed.

Pete Seeger There is mean things happening

As in Black Doves, we’ve got spies who wanted adventure and “blood on their teeth” at first, who can’t easily change course later on.

The treachery in the show is multi-layered. There’s cheating of course, turning on one’s compatriots, coworkers, family, country. Feef does some very shitty things, but it’s wrenching to see all the ways in which she is betrayed, particularly when she tries to turn herself around.

But I love the idea of a job where you write a report about the merits of different types of wood for housing. Wish she’d stayed there. Why can’t I have that?
