Boy, if I was a kid who just received the LEGO Onyx Cinder for Christmas or Hanukkah, I might be real annoyed when it doesn’t have blow-off hull-plating to reveal a sleek saucer section getaway ship.

But then I’m already bummed it doesn’t have an SM-33 minifig :(

I liked this episode, though it felt like the writing and/or the kids' acting abilities weren't quite where I would have liked them in the beginning of the episode.

We finally found out what KB's condition is, and geez, poor KB.

Loved the hermit junk crabs on the beach. The arrival of the X-wings was a nice touch and it was fun to watch the kids suddenly realize that they're the good guys. The Onyx Cinder 2.0 is a pretty sleek design, and the lego set is nice...but really, WHAT THE HECK, NO SM-33?!!

giant new alien creature: check
new ship design: check
falling through curiously well-lit and maintained disposal tubes: check

alien ladder has a ladder-cage for safety: what the heck are they doing to star wars

yeah this was a special episode where they introduced new toys wasn't it. ok, but i also enjoyed the "real friends will forge you a new brain-fuse on the fly" heart to hearts had by all the kids

also, KB is in engineering; she is Laforge, and Fern is Kirk, isn't she?

Fern thinks she's supposed to be Kirk, because she takes her cues from her mom, who is some kind of leader-type on At Attin. But her mom's not really in charge there, either. I would not be surprised if whoever is supposed to be in the big tower on At Attin isn't there, that it ends up being this automated security system for the Old Republic Mint that has been running automatically for all this time.

Anyway, the kids are all right, at least for the time being, and they've got a sleeker, less junktastic Onyx Cinder. Jod trying to turn the situation around for himself and seeming to succeed is probably not long-lived; when has he ever succeeded? (I'm assuming that that's him in the prologue in the first episode, although of course that could be another head-fake.) Mostly, I'm just hoping that what's left of SM-33 gets taken off the junk pile and restored; I kind of love that cranky old bastard.

I think after Jod escaped in the third episode or so, he was directly referenced to as Silvo - so that was him in the opening of the show.

The only other option besides some automatic/droid as Supervisor is SM-33's old captain, who's been happy to retire to oversee a growing mountain of mint Old Republic credits. HOWEVER, if we are making a Goonies' reference, and Captain Tak Rennod is supposed to be One Eyed Willie, then we'll find a dead Captain Tak surrounded by treasure while the droids run everything as he left it.

This lines up with the idea that the Pirates are the Fratellis and everyone arrives at At-Attin at the same time, a la discovering the pirate ship in the cave. As is, SM-33 was operating as if the Captain was still around when he was reactivated, so presumably Tak made it to At-Attin alive and someone stabbed that skeleton with a knife.

I think that the Governor that all of the parents want to talk to, but isn't available is going to end up being Tak. Just a hunch.

There have been Lego sets that included significant spoilers before… 🤔

The model does actually look like it could have removable hull-plating but none of the product photos include the gimmick so I suspect not. Shame!

Yeah. I found the party split very forced, but they brought it around to a solid payoff by the end.

The little wobbles in the flight path as the flew away were a nice closing touch.

A close friend of mine has just been diagnosed with a potentially fatal illness, and that scene with KB and Wim, and then between Fern and KB, hit hard. I was not expecting that from a Star War.

My son likes the show a lot, and keeps discussing where to rank it in the list of all Star Wars media. It’s pretty high up there for him, and I have to say that these scenes lifted Skeleton Crew up a few spots on my own personal ranked list.

Teachable moment. It's Lego. Kids can make their own.
