Movie: Music by John Williams
French documentarian Laurent Bouzereau has directed 343 movies(!), many of which are hack-jobs of the 'The Making Of' type. MUSIC BY JOHN WILLIAMS is his latest (and highest rated). From the Trailer, it looks like it might be the usual hagiographic bio-pic trash, but because of its subject matter, it isn't. (Similar to the 2021 Ennio Morricone biography,) it's a touching, inspiring and joyful trip down memory lane. A wholesome story about the wholesome man who was nominated for 54 Oscars, "One of the biggest pop stars ever". [more inside]
Special Event: Weekly Planet's riff of STAR WARS
That's the original Star Wars, and the theatrical cut I believe. The Weekly Planet is a pop culture discussion podcast, and your culture doesn't get much more pop than "A New Hope." A doofus moisture (a.k.a. "sweat") farmer leaves his hick planet to navigate a universe of robots, monsters, cabarets, wizards, smugglers, princesses and villains. Somehow he saves the universe. Special Event: Late Seating: THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL
MST Club presents! Word wound its way around to us that the podcast Late Seating has done riffs of a number of Christmas movies, and one of them is the dreaded (yet strangely entertaining) Star Wars Holiday Special. CHTucker mixed the video of the SWHS with Late Seating's audio, and tonight that's what we're watching! Do I have to describe the indescribable? The Star Wars Holiday Special is from a strange mixture of multiple pop culture phenomena: the height of Star Wars mania, the era of the TV variety show, and the careers of Harvey Korman, Art Carney and Bea Arthur. The results include a lengthy segments of Chewbacca's family talking to each other entirely in Wookese without subtitles, Carney playing a space trader, Korman doing three comedy segments, Arthur running a cantina on Tatooine, and a disturbing VR performance by Diahann Carroll for Chewie's pater.
