My admiration for Mary-Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri is substantial, but not enough for me to like this very much. Maybe the people making it thought it was more like a grounded grown-up Donnie Darko: sad, beautiful, coming to terms with mortality and learning to appreciate the life you got to live. But for me, it played like a sad, slow-moving indie take on Adam Sandler's Click: selfish middle aged person learns it's better to abandon the cool time jumping tech and appreciate the modest life and loving family they have.

a black hole growing in her chest
I honestly don’t even know where to begin with that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure someone with a black hole inside their chest would have a life expectancy of considerably less than a week.
I assume we're meant to take it as a metaphor for cancer or illness in general, or just the inescapable truth of our approaching mortality or something?

Yeah, it's pretty hand wavey symbolism there for illness and the notion that one day, we just sort of blink out of existence, like it or not.
The diagnosis is treated as not unheard of, though there's a throwaway line that "usually it's just astronauts."

Also, as someone with chronic nosebleeds, whose kid also has chronic nosebleeds, let me just say that I absolutely despise the "nosebleed equals impending death" trope.

DOT, as always, I appreciate your thoughtful commentary on these movies SO MUCH. I thought this might possibly be interesting based on the description (didn't watch the trailer) but boy I cannot handle "devoid of energy and joy" right now. At least without a big payoff. And I also can't deal with hamhanded symbolism.

I probably shouldn't have said it was devoid of energy and joy, just lacking in energy and joy.
And there are some scenes that are supposed to be fun. Some of them feel old hat (person in a time loop knows when a bird will shit or a cat will meow!) but a few of them (the nanoscopic man!) are kinda good. There's never really the sense of wild possibility or complex rules, of playfulness or complex rules that usually exists in a time loop movie, though. As an example, the two women don't really try anything to fix this, best I can tell. they just study it.
Really, I didn't hate this. It's about a 5.5 out of 10. But I am a huuuuuuuuuge fan of time loop movies, so that is effectively damning with faint praise, coming from me.

Yeah, if I ever get my act together I'm going to make a playlist of movies with time loops starting from the shortest (is it Beyond The Infinite Two Minutes?) to the longest (???).

I only ever counted number of time loops in a movie but never the length. That's an interesting way to do it.

It's a short film and only sort of a loop, but One-Minute Time Machine might qualify.

There are some folks trapped in a few seconds of time loop in The Endless, although most of the loops are much longer.

It could have used some zip and a better sense of humor to make the medicine go down.
I expect many people will like it better than I did, though. So don't necessarily let me put you off if the trailer appeals to you.
