Stargate SG-1: The Gamekeeper

O'Neill and the SG-1 team travel to P7J989 where they discover a beautiful garden and a dome full of strange metallic chambers.
On P7J-989, SG-1 is attached to virtual reality pods. Captain Samantha Carter and Dr. Daniel Jackson are replaying Jackson's parents' death, and Colonel Jack O'Neill and Teal'c are replaying a past mission gone awry. The caretaker of the pods and the other other residents, the Keeper, is keeping the planet's inhabitants from leaving the pods.

This episode always makes me groan when it starts because I forget that the back half of the episode isn't just the team still replaying the worse memories of their lives. In fact, it actually becomes pretty enjoyable by the end. I remained impress by how smoothly they pulled off the Keeper shifting from one form to another.
When Hammond is going, "You know what, maybe it would be good for you guys to go back and hook up into that machine for a few more weeks," I was dying.

Dark parts of the past of O'Neil and Jackson. I wonder if they would have caught on so quick if Sam and Teal'c hadn't also been there. It's an interesting commentary on the nature of grief, and the terrors of the past, how they both clearly care about the tragedies, but understand and have accepted them.
