Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins) is a postal worker in New York City in 1975 who experiences frightening hallucinations and breaks with reality that are possibly related to a devastating attack on his unit in Vietnam four years earlier. As he tries to figure out what's going on, things turn even stranger and more sinister.
This is one of my all time favorite horror movies, from the great direction (Adrian Lyne), the extremely solid cast (Tim Robbins is joined by Elizabeth Peña and Danny Aiello), and the unsettling, creepy atmosphere and highly influential effects. The latter two were reportedly big influences on the Silent Hill series of videogames, as well as a bunch of other horror movies throughout the 90s and 2000s.
(Apologies for the screw-up and posting late. Hopefully you get a chance to watch it. It seems to be available on Amazon Instant Video, at the very least, as well as Blu-Ray and DVD, although canistream.it is acting up).
