June 9, 2015 4:05 PM - Season 1, Episode 7 - Subscribe
Ten years after Phryne posed for a famous artist in Paris, his widow arrives in Melbourne asking for her late husband's paintings.
*Bert and Cec witness a hit & run which kills their friend Thommo; impatient with the pace of the police investigation, they ask Miss Fisher to take on the case. After a second friend is murdered, she discovers that current crimes are connected to the murder of Pierre in France ten years earlier.
*Dot's priest objects to her seeing Protestant Hugh; on Mr. Butler's advice she calls his bluff, and the father withdraws his disapproval, and instead hopes that Dot can get Hugh to convert to Catholicism.

I watched this long ago right after the initial FanFare push, and the only thing I can remember is that Artist Dude was a complete Asshole Dude.

This is the episode that fanned the flames of my Phryne/Jack feelings into a conflagration. THAT KISS. THE WAY HE SAID HER NAME. Their moment of sexual tension over the painting! Oh god, I ship it so hard.
Anyway, flashback Phryne looked very fetching what with the dewy cheeks and longer hair.

Glad we're doing these again! I'd accidentally fallen off watching only to discover that the Fanfare posts had trailed off. I kept revisiting it and getting interrupted a few minutes into ep 7 each time.
I don't really have much to say about the mystery. It was suitable. The moment with the man in black nearly shooting kids and stuff was suitably tense. I'm finding again that the mysteries are generally fine, but the real fun of this show is just hanging out with these characters.
PS Yes to everything about BEEP BEEP and that (Phryne and Jack need to do the sex). I won't mind if they draw it out a little more though.

In the middle of binge-watching this show as the husband is away (he can't seem to get into this one), and really just loving all the atmosphere of the shows. This is one of those that's a lot better in the televised form vs. the books (the books seem a bit cheesy sometimes, while that cheesiness works well on television, and you get all the gorgeous clothes too).
