Star Trek Tuesdays?

Regretfully, I've been a lifelong nerd that has never watched any Star Trek but I'd like to start. So I am proposing watching Star Trek The Original Series (available on Netflix) in episode order starting from the first one, with new posts going up on Tuesdays. Given it's 40 years old, I don't think spoilers or first watch/rewatch labels are necessary, but I would like to dive into the originals before someday moving on to the other series. Who's with me?
Make it so.

Sounds good! I've been considering doing this since Mark Watches has begun tackling TOS.

I am upset that the "nerds" tag has only one R. Ogre is disappoint.

I too suffer from chronic Star Trek deficiencies and I would like to get in on this action.

The original series is also available on Amazon Prime for free (along with the movies and the later shows).

This will mean that I'll be watching TOS at the same time as wading through TNG for the first time, which I'm sure will create some kind of temporal rip that will threaten to destroy the universe, but heavens will that be entertaining to watch.

I have watched almost all of the other series (including DS9 and Enterprise) but have only seen a few episodes of the original series.
I'm in!

Which episode will you start with? I'm not a Trekker, but I do know there were two different pilots, then a "first episode." Then the second pilot was later shown out of order during tjhe first season.

I was going to check Netflix for what they call S01E01 and go with that.

Here is Netflix's page on it. Looks like at one episode per week it'll take about a year and a half to work our way through the three seasons of the original series.

The first episode made was "The Cage," which had Captain Pike and various other differences in the cast. It was retooled into parts of "The Menagerie" (two-parter, S01E11-12).
"The Man Trap" was the first episode that actually aired, but the second "pilot" that DirtyOldTown speaks of was "Where No Man Has Gone Before," which aired third.
I would suggest skipping "The Cage." Maybe watch it after all of TOS, just as a curiosity.

I'm going to go with the IMDB and Netflix listings, which goes with The Cage as #1, so however they were filmed or played, I'm just going to go off the numbering system so we're all clear we're watching the same episodes.

Star Trek Tuesdays sounds dumb. Maybe Star Trek Saturdays instead. I feel like watching my first one today and posting soon after.

Would it be better if we called them Trekkin' Tuesdays?

Yes yes yes! I just started the series again a week or so ago, so I don't mind starting over.
Also, I disagree with Etrigan. Since "The Menagerie" canonizes Pike's captainhood before Kirk, I think "The Cage" is a good place to start. Plus, "The Cage" is a pretty interesting episode, letting one start the series on a high(er) note than "The Man Trap". And Majel Barrett's Number One is a great character and one of the most competent second-in-command characters in all of the Star Trek series.

The whole franchise retrospective would include The Animated Series, right?

I'd be down for Saturdays as well, considering that the Fanfare Twin Peaks rewatch is gonna be a Tuesday/Thursday thing.

I also have never seen them and would like to be involved, yahooo. Now I just have to figure out how to find the time. Fanfare is starting to squeeze all the time out of my life.

Sorry for the derail, but is there more info on this? I'd totally be down for a TP rewatch
