It just clicked for me (even though I have read the book) that "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is a book on how to do emotional labor.

And poor poor Tessa, I was hoping that she would open up to Betty, but a few more school suspensions and she'll spill the beans. Betty knows how to talk to her like she's a person and would also be very great at handling the situation.

Finally a return to the sorts of episodes that made me love this show. Michelle Ashford had said in an interview that this season had to take care of some obligatory storytelling that wasn't necessarily the stories they'd have preferred to be telling, and those first three episodes sure did feel like a slog. Nice to see it picking up again in this episode.
