I can't tell if the set design is lazy or brilliant. Retro Girl's home decor matches her costume? She and Christian both have pictures of themselves on the walls? Do they worry that the viewer will forget which location they're in or is this reflective of a deep-seated need for reassurance of their identities?

On the whole I thought this episode was solid. Not much chemistry between Deena and Christian yet, which may be a problem moving forward.

Not all viewers may be aware of the many references to one of the foundational texts of English literature, The Pilgrim's Progress.

PP is a Christian allegory written in the 1600s by John Bunyan. It is the story of a man named Christian who is called by God to leave everything he knows (including his wife and children, kind of a dick move) to follow God. This takes the form of a literal voyage on foot (hence Christian Walker) that is Fraught with Peril. It's the origin of phrases such as 'follow the straight and narrow', 'the Slough of Despond', and Vanity Fair. The Captain's name is Cross. And of course Deena's last name is Pilgrim.
