Announcement: Animation Celebration
August 24, 2015 6:24 PM - Subscribe

Just realized many of my favorite recent animated films are not on FanFare - hence the Animation Celebration club!

Focus is on animated films that were released with an American audience in mind from 2000-2015 - so, mainstream stuff.

Posts are scheduled on a weekly basis on Saturdays.

We can start with this focus initially and maybe expand after that? What do you all think? I've scheduled films I'm most enthusiastic to discuss, what are yours?

If you add a film and would like to do the FanFare post, please do put your Mefi handle in brackets after the film title so I'll know not to write the post for it, like so:

How to Train Your Dragon (cortex) - DATE

Feel free to add movies, this should be fun!

I have some suggestions! I don't want to manage all of them but in case anyone else was looking for ideas, I went through Wikipedia's list of animated films for the past 15 years and picked out my favorites.

Kung Fu Panda
Meet the Robinsons
The Incredibles
Treasure Planet
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
The Road to El Dorado
The Emperor's New Groove
Despicable Me

These films are Japanese originally but they have great English dubs and would be worth watching as well:
Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away

If we get back to the 90s at some point, I have dibs on Cats Don't Dance.

Super! Those are some great suggestions.

I don't think the Japanese ones are a good fit, though. Maybe start a Japanese animation film club if you want to?

Turns out there's actually an anime club so I'll just slide those suggestions over in that direction.
