Angel: First Impressions Rewatch

Darla's back! And they're in luuuv-- oh, no, just a dream. But wait! Oh, and while Angel is having his angsty Darla dreams, Cordelia saves Gunn, from vampires and himself.

A kind of weird set-up episode, with Cordy starting her season arc of personal growth and responsibility, and the Darla-Angel return engagement flickering into existence. David Herman makes his last appearance as David Nabbitt (and I keep messing up the name of either the character or the actor, but by now I'm pretty sure they're both David).

I feel like they were trying pretty hard to set up Gunn and Cordy as a romantic couple in this episode, but it just didn't take. Their scenes felt a little forced, anyway.

Gunn had no chemistry with Cordelia or Fred. The closest he came was that electrokinetic girl Gwen Raiden that they introduced as a backdoor pilot / because no one was letting Joss Whedon write X-Men stories yet and, goddammit, Joss Whedon wanted to write X-Men stories.

I don't even know if they had chemistry, but they had good repoire.
