Congratulations to Regina, practically undefeated best line of episode champion, for delivering: "Too bad he didn't know enchanted mushrooms don't burn"(or whatever exactly it was she said) like it was an actual line of dialogue and not the most ridiculous thing ever (this week).

I believe it was "I guess he didn't realize enchanted toadstools don't burn".

Don't worry, I added the tags for you.

More relevantly, I think this episode was pretty good! Maybe not as good as last week but I got a lot of the stuff I wanted out of it e.g. girlbros believing in each other and crazy nonsense happening for the thinnest of reasons. I think maybe they should have had a stronger "Arthur is real bad" revelation when they found the unburned magical toadstool (oh maybe it's magical and not enchanted?) but, like, fine. Merida and Belle were kind of ridiculous but I do enjoy when Belle is headstrong and naive but full of book-learning instead of just dopey as happens so much, so her actually being helpful sometimes worked for me.

Oh I was also kind of hoping that it would turn out that Belle was the hero Emma wanted because she was the one who actually made brave choices in this episode like pulling that rug out from under Merida and slamming on the breaks instead of running away and stuff. I think that would have been a nice twist.

Also, do we know what's happening now that she's got Excalibur? Future thoughts? Also Nimue is apparently the Lady of the Lake? God I hope it's not Cora.

My fanwank is that Belle would be too heroic to be manipulated by threats against Rumple, and would let him get killed by Emma to preserve the greater good. (I started to wonder at one point if Belle was going to turn out to be Emma in disguise.)

toadstool line: i thought immediately of you guys and this thread, not disappointed. just think, lana parrilla aka best part of the show opened up this script, saw she had five lines, and one of them was that.

yes to strong belle, wasn't expecting to and didn't like the merida story so it was a bit wasted, for me. i always like her telling rumple to fuck off tho. i'm bored with rumple and recycling his redemption arc, it never goes anywhere. but ex DO going up against new DO, eh, mayyyybe it'll be watchable. strategic rumple is better than coward clean slate rumple. "hero" status is bullshit of course.

they had to so belle could have her adventure, but it was messed up how Team SB abandoned her and rumple at the beginning when they chose merlin/toadstool.

favorite scene: zelena/emma. ouat has so much internal drama they don't need to randomly wedge in disney properties every week. they talk for 3 minutes and i'm like YES DO IT the entire time. reference to emma being pregnant in prison, to her lackluster dark one performance ("how dreadfully unoriginal"), violet's heart, manipulating henry, zelena's history with cora, HENRY HENRY NEAL BAM BAM, zelena's potential redemption, emma's loneliness.

Totally agree that I liked Zelena and Emma together. Zelena can be really mean in a way I like and the worst part of the Dark Emma plot has been that it hasn't really been that much about Emma, as opposed to Merlin/Arthur/Toadstools which is a shame. The scene with Zelena brought a bit more of Emma into focus for a second, which was nice.

Totally agree with this; there are elements of their relationship I like but him toying with her feelings over and over and her continuing to believe in him got old several cycles ago. Remember when she literally banished him from the town? I respected the hell out of that, especially because it was clearly painful for her but she did it anyway, and I feel like they pulled back from that without her really earning it.
