Strange Club: Holiday Movie Viewings

Two upcoming movies will have a holiday bent. 'Tis the season to get strange.

Dec. 21: we'll be doing a crossover with the Holiday Movie Club: Rare Exports. Rare Exports (trailer) is a 2010 Finnish horror-fantasy-thriller film directed by Jalmari Helander about people living near the Korvatunturi mountain who discover the secret behind Santa Claus.

Dec. 28: we'll be watching Survive Style 5+ trailer). The 2004 Japanese film follows five simultaneous, loosely linked plot lines that intertwine and scramble together. I'm told there's an extended Christmas sequence in it, and it's been in our queue for a while.

Happy holidays!

I can't wait for the Survive Style 5+ viewing! It's not super well known, but I have to tell you guys that this movie is not to be missed. I've seen it around eight times and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. I put together a screening of it once, and here's the description I wrote up for it:

A man who just wants his wife to stay dead. A philosophical British hitman and his milquetoast translator. An advertising director who only comes up with bizarre, unworkable ideas. A gang of flamboyant teenage burglars. An unassuming family whose patriarch suddenly believes he’s a bird. These 5 separate plotlines overlap and intertwine, building up to its hilarious climax, one of the funniest endings I've ever seen. This film is an ultra-hip stylized kaleidoscope of bright colors, loud music, and surreal images. A rare, brilliant example of an art comedy that’s actually funny.

I hope you guys will watch it with me!
