I am excited and skeptical and I will watch The Magicians. Books in?

Of course! So we can talk about the differences!

You can see the pilot online now, actually, if anyone hasn't checked it out - I only have vague memories of the book at this point, but I imagine it'll come back to me as the series goes on.

We will watch The Magicians.

[makes mystic gesture at each to ensure this will occur]

I haven't read any of the books yet, but I was intrigued by the first hour of the pilot when SyFy ran it as a sneak peek last month. I'll probably stay out of the 'books included' thread and start a 'show only' one if no one else does it first.

You guys had better have a high tolerance for things typed in ALL MOTHERFUCKING CAPS, because I have some opinions about that first episode.

oh yeah! : Oooh, yeah, the opinions, they are hot and ready... why aren't you posting the pilot/episode 1 for which to vent them as we speak?

I don't like to post ahead of the official broadcast, there won't be any recaps to link to. (I submitted the show name to the queue though, it's there if anyone else feels like posting.)

I saw the pilot and liked it more than I remember liking the book.

They definitely changed stuff for the pilot and I think we'd need books and show only because of that. But I am down for this show.

A reassuring profile/puff-piece from BuzzFeed. They seem to at least get what the books are about.

I remember finding the first book pretty boring. I might give the show a shot anyway. I'm not a big fan of television with unsympathetic main characters though, so... We'll see!

Ok, I posted the show-only's, nothing intelligent to add to the threads tonight though, sleep beckons.

I don't have syfy so someone else could help and post!

I'm just starting the first book, not yet half way through it. Is the series tracking with the first book for this season, or pulling from all three books?

The second book has significant flashbacks that take place the same time as events in the first book. The TV show is showing them concurrently.
