The ladies are back with a strong opening episode. Watch for the changing texts on Ilana's hat.

For some reason, the idea of Hannibal Buress in a trapeze is hilarious to me. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

I'd never seen this show (though I've heard a lot about it) and accidentally stumbled across it last night. Pretty funny stuff. The patter between those two is really great and demands you pay close attention.

I love the world they inhabit. It's just a little bit more bizarre than our own world. Warehouse sales disappear in a blink, strange voices come from sewers. Art shows are pretty much the same though.

Ilana has Truck Nutz on her bike seat.

I need to go through that intro frame-by-frame or perhaps someone on the Internet has already done so.

That's something that I started thinking right around the Val Bar/FOMO episode last season: Abby and Ilana's world is, I think, best described as Brooklyn Magical Realism. As a Brooklyn-based dude the exact same age and roughly the same level of hipsterocity as them, it's recognizable as being very, very close to the world I live in every day, but just a bit stranger and more interesting.

I loved that bathroom opening sequence. I had to watch it multiple times, trying to catch all the little details.

That one episode where the opener is just them walking through subway cars? I was like "I should show this to my children someday, because this so perfectly encapsulates New York for me right at this moment in time"

Watched it with similarly-obsessed neighbours. All of us, at exactly the same time, howled, "OH MY GAAAAWWWWDDD HAR MAR"

Glee was had.

Oh my gosh. In the bathroom scene with the hair straighteners, Abby is wearing "The Dress" in white and gold and Ilana is wearing it in black and blue. Love it. That whole sequence is so sweet.

I loved the recurring gag of Ilana bringing up Serious Issues and then undercutting herself by totally losing her shit about something fairly trivial. I also loved the swinging brass balls at the art show.

The bit port-a-potty/box van bit stretched the limits of Brooklyn Magical Realism, but this was still a pretty damned funny episode.

I could not get enough of that balding shirtless guy with the baseball bat. His little theatrical pose in the very last shot of the gallery scene was brilliant.

Pretentious Art Shows are a really easy mark for comedy, but I'm a sucker for them anyway. Yeah, that was a lot to enjoy in that scene. The only thing that might have made it even better for me is if there was some hint dropped (maybe there was!) that the art show was taking place in the same space as the pop-up clothing store.

OMG this episode was so funny, and I'm so excited that feminism has finally brought us to a TV show where two women who are smart and interesting can also be total idiots and fuck ups in the way dudes are, except more interestingly.

So the shirtless guy at the art gallery was Har Mar Superstar. Who was the girl whose painting they runied?

I also loved when the guy started to golf clap and was shut down by his date.

Looking over the cast list for the episode, I believe that was Emily Meade.
