Veep: Detroit
May 13, 2014 8:54 AM - Season 3, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Dan's first week as campaign manager as Selina visits Detroit and encounters a familiar head of state.

This wasn't my favorite episode, but I liked it a quite a lot. I believe the show is best when most of the cast is stuck in one room dealing with one situation, and that happened twice (hallways are rooms.) Sue and Ken were isolated but in contact on speakerphone (or maybe they received a photo) -- and their togetherness perplexing the rest of Selina's staff provided more glue.
  • Lots of body parts: Gary's arm, Selina's core, Amy's neck, Catherine's fist.
  • Dan's fear of Ben is more muted and tactfully expressed than Jonah's, but just as real.
  • And Jonah's never gonna get that stretchy badge if he keeps trying to ruin the Veep's campaign. Why did he do that, though? Ryantology is dead, I'm guessing, so maybe he just wants insider treatment from a reporter. (Leon?)
  • I kind of want to read Minna's book. Presumably it deals at length with Finland's illustrious iphone game export industry.
  • Selina and Andrew are great to watch (but not to be) in the same room, and I guess we're going to see more of that in the second half of the season.
Thoughts?

Sue and Ken are making the show for me right now. So hilariously awkward.

I just realized Jonah spilled the gun story because he works for Maddox -- makes more sense.

Chris Meloni really went for it in his part. I'm assuming we won't see him again though -- sad.

I like that they're doing more with Catherine. That scene in the third episode where she jolts Selina out of her sulk proved that Sarah Sutherland is a talented comedic actor. I didn't know she was Kiefer's daughter. I hope she gets more work generally, but I really enjoy this character.

gaspode: The "Next week on" teaser had Chris Meloni in it! I'm excited to see more of him.
