Project Runway All Stars: Going For Baroque
March 18, 2016 5:34 PM - Season 5, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Designers create couture-inspired gowns that celebrate Baroque fashion. Marchesa's Keren Craig and Supermodel Coco Rocha guest judge.

The couture challenge! with a baroque theme which the designers feel free to ignore, and a whole two days to sew.

Final looks.

Top three: Sam (inevitably), Valerie (inexplicably), Ken; Ken wins.
Bottom three: Alexander, Layana (unfairly), Mitchell (finally); Mitchell goes home.

I just do not get the judges love for Valerie who seems to be a very pedestrian designer. Ken rightly won this week IMO, but I would've liked to see Dom in the top.

I would've had Emily in the bottom. Besides being too similar to Halle Berry's Elie Saab gown, the black and silver looked cheap. Kini's umbrella dress was brilliant in his first season but here it was a gimmick that made no sense; it didn't look good or walk well.

At least Mitchell is gone.

I haven't seen this but I had a thought earlier today that Sara Bande would be a good name for a baroque-themed drag queen and this seems like as good a place to report that as any

Alyssa looked good on the runway btw. I love a little Brown Ajah moment.

Kini made another umbrella dress for sure

Alexander's kind of gave me trypophobia

Dom. When are the judges going to notice how much she's been killing it, wtaf.

Ken, yes fine. Not mad about it despite hilariously obvi foreshadowing.

Valerie, yes fine.

Sam, sure I guess.

Never rated Layana much before but actually I lurrrved her top; Isaac can fuck right along imho. I do agree that brown isn't quite the right shade tho, too red maybe? But no way was that B2 worthy. I would wear that to work tbh

Mitchell, I mean, no.

Georgina, lol, "barock"

Could someone define the word "baroque" as it pertains to clothing? Because I'm just not getting it here.

It killed me that they introduced this at Medieval times, and that's where they did their sketching. I mean .... come on. COME ON.

I think of Baroque clothing as lush and finely, richly, elaborately detailed with layers for elaborate drama and shape. So much of what we saw - even factoring in the timeframe and the get-out-of-jail free card that is "modern Baroque" - was crap.

Bah!

"Barock" killed me.

That's how it's pronounced in the UK and the rest of Europe. There's no long 'o' in it. For some reason, Americans like to put long vowels in words. E.g. Americans say "Paah-stah" and "Ris-oh-toh", which always makes Europeans piss themselves laughing.

I loved Ken's outfit and I'm glad he won. I'm also heartened to see in the preview for what's coming up this season that there's a Ken meltdown in the offing. Can't wait for that!

Yeah, Valerie... I don't get how the judges love her clothes. I find them really boring. Like Kini, I think she has one idea that she has to keep re-doing.

I really liked Asha's dress. I thought the colour was beautiful and it looked well-made. I didn't like Dom's. I thought the transparent fabric looked cheap.

Is Sam getting a horrible 'villain-of-the-piece' edit, or is he really such a giant asshole? It's hard to know, when they're working for 8 hours and we see five minutes purporting to depict what actually happened.

Layana's dress was, in my opinion, gorgeous. It was beautifully made, as was Alexander's. If either of them had gone home ahead of Mitchell on another producer's decision, I'd have stopped watching this show.

And goodbye Mitchell, you stayed way beyond your time. That horrendous dress looked as if it had been cut and sewn with a knife and fork.

I haven't been able to watch PR episodes since they moved to lifetime.com, so I have no idea how to the judges justified putting Layana in the bottom 3, but I doubt they gave a decent reason. That dress is gorgeous and eye-catching and unusual and no, it's not particularly baroque but none of them are. Can't say I'm surprised, though - the judging on this show has been confusing me for years.

On a certain site starting with R, Layana's dress was actually the most up-voted of the week's, which I was heartened to see.

I liked Layana's gown a lot, the jacket especially. The skirt was problematic but no way did it deserve to be in the bottom. The producer interference with the judging is more noticeable in the regular series; it haven't noticed it in All Stars until this series but then it could've happened, I generally forget the show entirely once it's over.

This time they are pushing Valerie and Sam; ignoring Dom; cannon fodder (of those still in) is Emily, Alexander, Asha; come-uppance is Kini; redemption is Ken.
