Doctor Who Administration
August 22, 2014 6:20 AM - Subscribe

I have a couple of admin questions.

1) Firstly, I forgot to tag episodes 7 and 9 as rewatch, can I add that in later?

2) New Who is coming up Saturday. I won't be around on Saturday to put up a thread, but if anyone else would like to then you should. I'll probably do one on Sunday or Monday if no one else has got round to it.

3) Revisiting the idea of Classic who. It seems like the official hard-coded episode/series values are going to cause difficulties here. Series 1 Episode 1 is down as Rose from 2005, so how would we number original who episodes? Could we add Classic Who as a separate show possibly?

It would probably be easiest and less confusion to do as you suggested and create a new slot for the non-NuWho stuff as Classic Who.

Another admin question, since Matt Smith is long gone, can we get a new pic for the Who series?

Best is to email us at the contact form and we can update them. I just updated both.

Yeah, that's kind of a nightmare given all the past versions of this. If there's a way that IMDB handles it, we can probably make it work, but it may require some retooling on the backend.

I can add the thread on Saturday.

iMDB handles it very poorly IIRC. I like the way this site does it - classic series is divided into Seasons, while the current show is divided into Series.

It occurs to me that DirtyOldTown posted this image as an administrative suggestion here, i.e. to be OUR Doctor Who image. I think it is likely to be missed in the S8E1 thread.

I think that's a good plan. And especially good to group all admin issues in one thread.

I can do some of the Capaldi first watch threads if you like. But ideally someone else would do that and I'd keep doing the wednesday rewatch threads.
I can do some now and then though.

I honestly don't know what's going on with this - is anyone going to post regarding the latest episode? I'd have posted myself, but assumed that someone else was going to do it - in fact that doing it would be stepping on someone's toes. I haven't really paid much attention to the mechanics of this sub site, to be honest, and when there are Strict Rules I tend to stay in the corner and keep quiet. But given the amount of interest that the series usually garners, it seems strange to have gone over twenty-six hours without anyone posting anything.

I enjoyed it, personally.

I'll put one up.
I guess a lot of people were assuming I would do one but were waiting for me to do it.

I think we're still figuring out the etiquette of how fanfare works.
Here is a good post trying to figure it out.

It would be a good plan to some to some agreement as to how we're gonna do them. I was hoping some others would be able to post sometimes, but not sure how we synchronise.
Any ideas?

Unless there's a group watch going on, like the Cult Films or Summer Camp films, or a re-watch which is set to a weekly schedule etc, I think any movie or tv show is open game for someone to create that post if time just keeps ticking and nothing has popped up yet.

Upon preview...

New episodes airing for the first time, it should be first come, first serve. The goal is to foster discussion about a new episode, the sooner, the better.

Rewatches...so long as someone follows the agreed upon viewing schedule, i.e., every Saturday/Tuesday/Nthday, then I think it doesn't matter who actually posts. Group watchings, where an ongoing theme is prevalent, like horror films, then again, the schedules are laid out, same as regular rewatch applies.

New movies...anything goes.

Old movies...anything should go, but it'd be wise to alert people of the uncontrollably desire to talk about E.T. or 12 Angry Men on the Fanfare chat page....but otherwise, anyone can or should do it.

The less proprietary and territorial Fanfare can be, the better.

Crap, I got all gobby about "Put up the thread!" and then, because I had to wait like 5 minutes for it to be approved, forgot to go to it.

I missed last night's Wednesday Who update.
Don't worry, it was just delayed a night because reasons.

It seems I've missed this weeks rewatch also, given it's now Friday. So rather than do it two days late I'll just skip a week and carry on next Wednesday with the excellent "girl in the fireplace"
Oh, then there's a two parter the week after, which I can do a double bill of and Bam!, back on schedule.
