The Real Housewives of New York City: Start Spreading the News
April 8, 2016 9:06 AM - Season 8, Episode 1 - Subscribe

The ladies are back in the city for the fall.

Bethenny is excited to be living in a home that she loves, all while continuing to find balance between working, dating and dealing with the stress that accompanies a chaotic divorce. After a year of lovebird bliss, Carole and her boyfriend, Adam, are still going strong. Meanwhile, Ramona adjusts to newly single life and takes advantage of all that the Manhattan dating scene has to offer. With her daughter away at boarding school, Sonja experiences empty-nest syndrome and invites Luann to stay at her townhouse, presenting the perfect opportunity to socialize. Dorinda continues to grow in her relationship with John but finds herself constantly defending their relationship. And new housewife Julianne “Jules” Wainstein joins Bethenny and Dorinda for a brunch that goes from sweet to sour.

I have been beyond excited for the premiere, and it didn't disappoint.

All eyes are on Jules as the sole new cast member. And, incidentally, the only NYC housewife who is a wife (not counting Bethenny, who said on WWHL that she thinks her divorce will be final soon). I'm glad Bravo dropped the dead weight that was Kristen, and Heather's only use was to stir pots that really didn't need stirring.

I usually don't moon over kids but Jules' are adorable. The little guy having a mini tantrum while smashing a bagel.

Bethenny came out swinging with jabs at Dorinda and Jules' plus-ones and a pretty catty conversation at the table about Jules' supposed eating disorder. I couldn't help but see the hypocrisy in Bethenny dissecting Jules' eating habits. Isn't Bethenny the one who went to Dorinda's dinner party and only ate a couple of meatballs, then freaked out when Heather made a small fuss about it?

They're going to milk this Luann-Carole conflict until it's dry as the Sahara. It's not like Adam was Luann's ex, c'mon. There's no way she still holds a grudge.

I loved the Ramona supercut. "We went to a place, they had a band, I think it was a jazz band--No, a reh-GAY band!" This is probably half of why I watch the show, for Ramona's mispronunciations and neologisms, so kadooz to her for that.

Luann staying in Sonja's townhouse. I'll just leave that out there.

I'm still trying to figure out Dorinda. She seems palpably uncomfortable around John. Maybe it's just because of the cameras, and in private she doesn't mind as much when he gets grabby? And the reaction to Bethenny's brunch outfit was strange. I felt like this episode she was kind of doing to Bethenny what John does to her, the same kind of suffocating fawning, but manifested differently.

I am SO glad to find this thread. The only RH franchises worth watching are this one and the OC.

I love Bethenny's new hair, and everything she wore was fabulous but she needs to spend more time in the weed-evator in her office building and chill out a bit. I did laugh (cruelly) at the R2D2 comment though. Her date to the brunch looked scarily like Jason-the-nearly-ex-husband. She has a type, it seems. Run, Jason-lookalike! Run away as fast as you can, while you still can!

Ah, Ramona. She's bonkers. I hope this season the women go to Jamaica so we can see her dancing to "Brazilian" Re-gay whilst off her face on rum.

Dorinda doesn't seem to like John very much at all. I don't mind a physically unattractive man if he has a good personality. Maybe he gets a bad edit, but John seems like a jerk with no redeeming features other than a fat wallet. It's hard to know what Dorinda can see in him, particularly as her late husband was an educated, erudite WASP-y type.

The glimpse we got inside Sonja's house made it look less like Grey Gardens than we've seen in the past (i.e. no broken toilet, no dog shit all over the patio). I don't know why she and LuAnn think it reflects well on them to talk about giving blow jobs on national TV, particularly as LuAnn's mantra as the Countess of Etiquette is "money can't buy you class".

Jules' kid - there are no words. If he's behaving like that at five years old he'll be out of control by the time he's a teenager.

Carole, a writer, asked Adam if he was "going to miss Baby and I". Really? Really, Carole? Maybe Aviva was right and Carole does have a ghostwriter ...

I always feel like I need a brain shower after watching this show, but here I am. Actually I did drop it for a season or two but started again last year on hearing Bethenny was back. She made last season awesome. (The one party where someone tried to bitch at her, and she just got up and walked away "no, I'm just not doing this." I laughed so hard.)

I have at times found LuAnn cool, but it's increasingly leaking into the actual show just how much of her non-show life she thinks she can hide from the cameras.

Sonja is such a drunken deluded mess I don't know how she isn't fully bankrupt and in rehab at this point.

SO much this. I do not understand those two. At all.

I'm glad Bravo dropped the dead weight that was Kristen, and Heather's only use was to stir pots that really didn't need stirring.

Oh wow, see I'd already forgotten that there were two cast members I couldn't stand last year. I'd wiped Kristen from memory entirely, and while I remembered Heather, mainly for her strange fights with Bethenny, I'd forgotten her name. Heh.

My first impression of Jules is not positive.
