Jeff and Jordan must be really good for ratings. I mean, I know they've appeared on a few other TV shows, so obviously they're good for ratings—but they must be really good, to merit the kind of money and attention CBS gave them last night. The proposal was teased in commercials beforehand, but I bought the part about them being in the house to assist with a competition; I thought the proposal was just something they were doing in addition. I didn't realize it was the sole point of their appearance.

If I'm understanding the rewind button correctly, it kinda takes the suspense out of this week. I don't know who will win the veto or who might get backdoored...but does it matter? Doesn't the button being pressed mean that everything between now and Thursday's live episode is moot? It will all be undone anyway.

Yeah, the button means the entire week gets mooted and they have to play the whole week again on Wednesday, I think like it was a double eviction. I've just been ignoring the show because nothing interesting or meaningful is going to happen until then.

I watched Utopia last night instead, because I've been reading recaps of the feeds. It's full of loopy people who don't get along, which means ~drama~.

Fox reality does tend to be heavy on drama, for sure. I'd be curious what they're doing with that show. I read that one of the contestants was ejected before the first episode even aired, for sneaking in a cell phone to Googlestalk her fellow utopians.

I think the idea of the rewind has potential, but here it's at the wrong time or the wrong season. Late in the game is when the dominating alliance of the season has to start turning on itself, so people find out where they really stand in each other's eyes. It's where the best bud who's been talking final two with you (and everyone else) is forced to reveal that you're really his fifth-favourite final two partner, for example, just before you head out the door. But now, that reveal is followed by a do-over, so you get the chance to turn on your former best bud. It's like Caesar standing up, taking the knife from his back, and facing a Brutus revealed. There's potential in that.

So the whole reason to watch this week is to see those moments where someone is forced into the open, acting on their master plan, and the emotional rollercoaster of the others as they learn where they really stand. Then once the rewind reveal happens, it's the reaction of everyone as they either regret what they've revealed or revel in the chance for revenge.

So, moot in terms of outcome, but definitely not moot in terms of potential significance to the players. That said, I think this season it won't work out that way. The remaining houseguests are banal, predictable, and annoying in various measures, and will likely end up with the same results post-rewind. Had it been done earlier, or when someone with the tactical presence of mind to take advantage of the situation was in the house, it could have been interesting.

(The potential for the reverse is also true - such a twist could have derailed Nakomis and the six finger plan, for example, which would be a real shame. It's giving a second chance to someone who isn't thinking strategically, and potentially damaging to someone who actually has been playing hard.)

Man, I think about this game too much for someone who doesn't actually watch it. My wife and son are addicted, and I'm happily reading books in the same room.

Well, that was anticlimactic.

These last few seasons of BB have been so anti-climactic. If I'm ever on the show and the producers start doing a whole bunch of twists and have animals come into the house (a dog, really?) I'll know I'm on a boring season.
