Carrie catches a break. Keane makes a plan. Max goes undercover.

Alternate summary: Carrie nearly fucks up again. Keane rethinks the plan, twice. Dar expresses his love. Max has the fastest job onboarding experience ever.

I am so in love with this show I can even watch a story as implausible as this and think it was just terrific. Quinn's escape from the cabin, Max's hiring experience, Keane's insane start to her presidency, they're all very hard to swallow. This season is showing significant signs of having to significantly rush the story along to get where it's going, there's only 3 hours left.

OTOH there's also the grace notes that make the show work so well. Carrie's interview with the psychologist, the realization she doesn't put the people she loves first. Dar Adal's disgusting manipulation of Quinn. Saul's angrily lashing back at Carrie "Well, coming from someone who fucked a guy in a suicide vest, that means a lot", the funniest line I've seen on a TV drama in quite awhile. Even Max's vulnerability with his M&M confession seemed emotionally honest.

Yeah, so much good and so much bad.

What is freaking me out is the way that the season's arc somehow manages to be a bizarro world version of stuff happening now. IC community versus the new President, conspiratorial use of social media to influence politics. Except everything is different.

I don't even try to think about this show's world's geopolitical continuity. I don't think it can be made to make any sense. The whole thing with Pakistan two seasons ago would have re-aligned many things. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The writing of characterization on the show can sometimes be quite good. And the acting is as good as it gets. I just wish the show itself deserved that level of talent. I just wished it made sense and wasn't nearly fantastical, which is how it often feels to me.

I would like to have watched Max read off every fake username and shame everyone at the "tech startup".

I don't buy that the "Alex Jones" character would be also leading a black box operation. They wouldn't want someone so recognizable to head up a covert organization and they'd use someone less intelligent and canny to be the batshit right wing talk show host.

For someone who often struggles to articulate himself, Quinn hasn't lost a bit of his memory or skills. Though I don't know why he would have remained in the cabin and not hung around until the police got there. His giving the police the slip was not credible.

Loved the moment when Dar Adal tells Keane about the custom of spitting in a guest's tea cup and Keane puts a cup of coffee in front of him and says, "You'd better hope this place has better service", but Keane shouldn't have indulged in a moment of verbal jousting, because it gave away her animosity.
