"Has anybody called you?"

Though S-Town is more of an audio-novel, FanFare policy dictates a strict separation of episodes, so...

Well, holy crap.

(By the way, we can do full-season posts for podcasts.)

Aw shit - my bad, I didn't read to the end of the drop-down menu, so it's on me that these are single-ep posts...

What do, mods? I appreciate (Arsenio)'s non-spoiling desire, but there is a case for an unfractured discussion...
Should there be an additional, full-season S-Town post, for the bingers among us?

I'd do both, because I'm blazing my way through at the moment and episodes are starting to meld together in my head.

No, I actually prefer to have a per-episode discussion since I'm only on #4 and may not be getting through them quickly. And then have an overall thread after it's done would be great.

Anyway, this one: so in the end, the mystery wasn't a mystery, it was just a rumor mill gone bad.
Then the episode seems to putter for awhile, even though we're promised that someone died.
And then...it was John.
Damn.

Aiiieeeee, why did I read this thread with 20 minutes left in the episode.

Ugh. I can't say I'm totally surprised, but that was a bummer. Anyway, I'm hooked. And I absolutely cannot listen to the rest of it tonight, because I have to go to bed.

Tears came to my eyes..and I wish they had said "Are you sitting down?"

OK, this may be the most powerful episode, when it twists from the expectation that this will be Serial Part III to the realization this is something else. You really get to know John.

I found it powerful too. But this was one of the few moments where I was startled enough to think, "And Brian Reed is running his tape recorder right now? That's weird.." Not a criticism, but I did have that moment.

I'm listening to an episode a day so am happy with single episode posts. I'd appreciate it if those further along wouldn't drop teasers about the roller coaster to come.

Yes, not a surprise that John is dead - it was flagged hard during this episode, but I am surprised it happened so early in the series. Though I am finding it very difficult to keep track of when things happen or when conversations take place.

Yeah, I do think it's weird he'd be running a recorder, but it does sound like he would make sure to do it because of story if he was talking to any of them.

I definitely gasped out loud at the end of the episode.

I don't think it's weird at all that he's recording all the calls. He's pretty deep into the story, and I'm sure he asked ahead of time if he could record. There's a call in episode 3 that he said he started on his personal phone but then asked if he could call from the studio. He started out his relationship with the Shittowners as a radio producer, so I'm sure they understand why he'd want to record.

How does one pee in a sink? It would suggest that the sink is quite low or that you have some sort of elevated platform nearby.

Halfway through: "Hm. If they've dispensed with the 'murder' in episode 2, what are the other 5 gonna be - there must be a big ending coming.... "

End: "Well sheee-it."

Just finished this episode. I have no idea where the rest of the series is going.

If one is a little taller than average and the house is a little older than average, it's not difficult.
